Why does my jaw make clicking noises?

Several reasons: This problem can only be solved by seeing your doctor and being evaluated face-to-face. After a thorough examination, your doctor should be able to tell you what's wrong and what to do about it.

Displaced/dislocated: Your jaw is either displaced (sprained) or probably dislocated. The clicking is when the cartilage slips into and out of place. If it click and you move your jaw forward and it no longer click you can treat this conservatively. Check with your dentist and get help before it won't slip back into place. Then it is harder to treat.

Displaced disc: Almost always a displaced disc in your jaw joint (tmj). If it is painless and your oral opening is normal - no treatment indicated or needed.
