Needs evaluation: Pain in this location can occur with several conditions including arthritis at the base of the thumb (cmc joint) and carpal tunnel syndrome. A proper evaluation from a hand surgeon with appropriate testing such as an ultrasound or nerve studies with x-rays can differentiate between these conditions.
