Reasons for surgery: Most discs resolve on their own within about 2 months. So conservative measures are used during that time. Reasons for surgery are patients with significant neurological deficit (weakness, or rarely bowel/bladder incontinence). Other reason is for intractable pain. Speak to a neurosurgeon/spinal surgeon.
