Dr. Robert Killian answered

Specializes in General Practice

Primary Care: You should have a good and trusting relationship with a family physician. This physician can test and treat you for the common problems. If a certain problem becomes unusual or complex then they may call on specialists to help.

Many: An internist (adult medicine specialist) or a family medicine doctor can evaluate this. A subspecialist in diabetes and other endocrine diseases is an endocrinologist who can also easily provide an opinion and recommendation.

Specializes in Internal Medicine

Your regular doctor: Your gp, fp, internist ornp should be able to diagnose diabetes and prescribe appropriate treatment including use of metformin along with evaluating the other available meds for you. If you are looking for specialist then diabetologist or endocrinologist may help. Thanks.
