Rocabado 6x6 : Exercises can help. These are a type of exercises that have demonstrated efficacy int reating TMJ pain. If that does not work, see your physician for consideration of nsaids or possible injections that could benefit. There are physical therapists who also can help. Manual manipulation by an osteopath or chiropractor may also be beneficial. Hope that helps!

Pain in jaw: You may be clenching or grinding your teeth. A professional hard night guard made by your dentist is the best thing for clenching at night. It should protect your teeth and tmj, and alleviate pain. It also may be an infection in a tooth that is just starting and doesnt show up on an xray. Trauma can cause this.

TMJoint pain: Standard palliative treatment includes: soft diet, no gum chewing, short term nsaid's, hot moist heat to outside of face just below and in front of ear, possible use of custom dentist fabricated night guard or other appropriate appliance. Beyond that, you need to be evaluated by a dentist with extensive training and experience treating tmd\tmj.

A few things: Depends on symptoms, and cause of symptoms. 3 signs of TMJ dysfunction: joint noises, joint pain & limited oral opening. Self treat with soft diet, jaw exercises, massage, heat/cold, OTC pain meds. A splint or physical therapy would be next. Occasionally muscle relaxants, biofeedback. Xrays are done for diagnosis. Surgery usually reserved for serious symptoms not responsive to other treatments.
