Can be: Carpal tunnel syndrome is a pinched nerve in the wrist that causes numbness and tingling in the fingers. This can lead to permanent nerve damage. The only way to know if there is permanent nerve damage is to take the pressure off the nerve and see how much of the the numbness and tingling improves. Nerve tests (emgs) can help but we'll not give you a definitive answer of permanent nerve damage.

It can be over time : With prolonged and unrelieved pressure permanent nerve and muscle injury can result.
