Does stress effect weight, and if it does what can i do to help myself?

Yes: Stress produces cortisol, that can in turn cause weight gain. I suggest to start on exercise, meditation as well as hobbies that can help cope up with stress. Having somebody that you can talk to helps as well. Pharmacological treatments are there as well which can help if conservative treatment is not enough.

Yes it can: Stress can disturb your eating patterns -- either making you eat more than usual, or much less. You would see weight increase or decrease, accordingly. If you think you might have some emotional triggers for eating (many people do) then groups like overeaters anonymous can be really helpful. If extreme weight loss has occurred, you need to see your physician about that asap. Be healthy.
