What treatment is there for frontotemporal dementia?

Dr. Maureen Nash answered

Specializes in Geriatric Psychiatry

We treat symptoms: Currently there are no treatments for frontotemporal dementia (ftd) that modify the disease process. Some evidence suggests memantine is helpful in stabilizing anxiety and agitation. There are several different types of ftd and they may even be separate illnesses. Many symptoms can be helped if you have a knowledgable prescriber involved. Geriatric psychiatrists specialize in this.
