Yes, but...: There are many causes of dementia. Dementia of any type has no cure. Multi infarct dementia requires to control the hypertension and prevent strokes with anticoagulants or aspirin. There are medicines that may help to delay the worsening of the disease such as Aricept (donazepil), namenda, exelon, galantamine (galantamine hydrobromide). One preferred tx is Aricept plus Namenda but is expensive.

Yes, but: It doesn't help much. Cholinesterase inhibitors (aricept, razadyne, Exelon (rivastigmine) patch) and Namenda have been shown to slow progression of cognitive loss in alzheimer's but does not affect overall disease course. We do not yet have a disease modifying therapy for alzheimer's or other dementias.
