A member asked:

What's the difference between anxiety and actual panic?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Severity mainly: "panic" means very severe anxiety, especially when it comes on fast (seconds or minutes) instead of building up over hours, and is accompanied by physical symptoms such as heart pounding, sweating, and trembling. It usually goes away soon. Sometimes the cause is known — medical or emotional — sometimes not. There are treatments, both medications and psychotherapy, that can help.
