Anxiety or panic?: Anxiety might be characterized as a more constant background "noise" where panic crescendos or spikes with the anticipation of doom. Panic more rapidly escalates with many physical symptoms. There typically is an associated fear that one might die, lose control, "go crazy, " suffocate, or have a heart attack. Those with generalized anxiety might have a few physical symptoms and are worrywarts.
