Brain injury: For the same reason that there is frequently weakness on one side of the body. The area of the stroke effects the part of the brain that controls the muscles of the face. The droop is a manifestation of that weakness.

If the stroke has: Affected the area of the brain that normally sends signals to a part of the face, then the muscles in that part will not get the message to contract. The relaxed part then droops with gravity.
