How do you treat anxiety and negative thoughts?

Thoughts: I work with negative thoughts in two ways. 1. Cognitive-behavioral approaches educate about how they are biased in ways that lead to emotional upset. 2. Distorted thoughts have a purposeful aspect: they help relieve the anxiety of the unknown and uncertain. Jumping to conclusions may lead to painful feelings, but it does artificially and immediately resolve the anxiety of 'not knowing'.
