Nerve irritation: It sounds like a nerve is irritated following surgery (hypersthesia). Use a vitamin e cream and it should improve.

Hernia pain: Where? What kind of hernia (you can have them all over your body)? Sometime pain like that can come from a stitch that is pinching or pulling on a cutaneous nerve. Sometimes it's just from the healing process. If not better in a few weeks, see your surgeon.
