Earache: By using the word 'minor' then we would think it would clear on it's own without a need to be seen.

Yes: Certainly, when you get water in your ear, you can expect a minor discomfort or ache. If it persists, it could be because you are starting to develop an early infection of the ear canal, called otitis external. Keep the ear dry. If the ear ache goes on for more than a day, see your doctor, you may need some drops to treat.
