Why is it advised not to get the screw out after bunionectomy?

No reason to...: If the screw is used for fixation of the osteotomy (cut in the bone made to correct the bunion), it is embedded and there is no reason to remove it on a normal basis. Reasons to remove this after the bone has healed would be if it was loosening and/or was the source of localized pain (eg. If you could physically feel it). An x-ray and discussion with your surgeon would be advised.

Screw : There is no need to have the screw removed unless there is loosening, another procedure near the screw needs to be performed, allergic reaction or irritation. So have one less procedure by not having the screw removed.

Can be removed.: They can be removed if they are causing you any discomfort or if they are backing out.
