A member asked:

What is the healing time for having screws removed from a bunionectomy?

Why remove : Them at all? Typically, when doing a surgery, the idea is to be operated on one time. I, personally, have never removed a screw placed in for a bunionectomy. If it is causing pain, i can see why it would be removed. The healing time in that case would depend if the original surgery has healed yet. There are also many bunion surguries and one would have to know which one to answer you.

VERY QUICK...: It's just a small incision and you should be back to regular activities immediately.

If needed, 1-2 weeks: Usually they do not need to be removed, but if they are removed it should only be about 10 days to 2 weka back to regular shoes. You would be walking right away.

Very fast!: Having screws removed has a much easier, shorter recovery time than the bunion procedure itself. You can stay weight bearing, there is very little swelling, and sometimes the hardware can even be removed right in the office. Skin takes two weeks to heal, and once the stitches are removed, you're good to go!

Recovery times vary: The healing rates can vary depending on the individual and on the exact type of procedure performed. The amount of time that you should remain off of your foot following bunion surgery will vary depending on the exact type of procedure performed. Discuss the recovery time with your surgeon who will be performing your surgery.
