Pain management: Opiods should be used with caution after evaluating the patient and screening for potential addictive personality. Some type of pain, neuropathic for example, do not respond well to opioids. Optional Opioids: Opioid medications are a powerful and effective means to manage chronic pain, however they should not always be the first line of treatment. Some chronic pain is chronic because of poor rehabilitation from an acute injury and other times the exact source of the problem is not discovered and managed appropriately. Thorough repeat exams along with opioids are your best long term option.
