Gout Inflammation: There is no one perfect anti-inflammatory for him. See what has worked with his body chemistry in the past. If it is advil, (ibuprofen) great, if not, another medication. The best thing he can do is apply 10 minute ice packs 3 to 4 times a day to cool down the inflammation daily. Avoid activities that flare it up, and see an internist for lab tests and perhaps some specific gout meds, like allopurinol.

There are many: Medications to reduce swelling but need to find cause of it first. Normally swelling from gout attacks don't linger. Find the cause first then treatment can be started.
