Inflammation: Carditis....Means inflamation of heart: peri:outside around heart; myo: heart muscle; endo: inside lining. Peri and myo can be caused by virus while endo can be bacterial. Drugs ot support heart function, antibiotics if necessary, maybe surgery if heart valves are damaged.

It varies: Pericarditis is inflammation of the sac around the heart that is often treated with antiinflammatories but may need surgery. Myocarditis can be a serious, often viral infection of the heart muscle. Treatment could be medication, artificial heart support or even a transplant. Endocarditis is an infection of the heart valves that may respond to antibiotics but might need a valve replacement.
