Difference: Pericarditis is inflammation of the lining around the heart - the pericardium, generally with a fluid collection between the pericardium and the heart. Endocarditis is an infection of the inner lining of the heart, generally on a valve surface, either natural or artificial.

Infection: Pericarditis is an inflammation of the pericardial sac surrounding the heart. While infection can be a cause, it is low on the list. Bacterial endocarditis is an infection involving the inside of the heart or heart valves.
