Varies: It can take anywhere from mere hours, to a day or more, depending on the surgery, your health, the sanitary conditions and technique of the staff.

Can vary: Hopefully you will not develop sepsis after surgery. If the surgical site becomes infected it could take hours or days depending on the location and type of surgery.
