How much vaginal bleeding for a newborn is normal?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Few Q-tips worth: Probably 1/10 infant females will have a small amount of menstrual blood as early as the 4th and seldom later than the 10th day after birth. It is seldom more than would cover a few q-tips.This is due to withdrawal of pregnancy hormones which stimulate the baby uterus. Many more will have a mucousy sticky discharge. It should be a one time event.
