Bleeding or a stain?: If it is just a stain do not worry it is likely to stop soon. If the hole is oozing blood you may want to see a doctor. The hole was your baby's connection to your blood system when in the womb. I wonder if there was a tie on the cord and it is now gone or loose? I wonder how old is your baby? If the bleeding is little just tie the cord with very clean tie to keep the hole tight and keep clean.

Common: The umbilical stump is composed of arteries & a vein that fed baby during pregnancy. As the cord stump dries & separates, there is often a bit of bleeding. Ointments delays healing, alcohol speeds it.Local care as you would a scratch is all that is needed unless the bleeding persists.Occasionally the pediatrician needs to cauterize a stubborn bleeder in the office
