61yr old female, 1-inch area back pain, left of spine & near tip of shoulder blade. left kidney cyst; urologist said my pain was not from kidney area.

Trigger point: This sounds like a trigger point - in other words, a localized area of soft tissue inflammation. Try ice/heat, direct massage, and nsaids (i.e. Ibuprofen, aleve). A steroid injection directly into the area is an option as well.

Not Kidney: Urologist is probably right. Maybe coming from your cervical spine (neck) or mid spine.

See below: The kidney are located at the lower rib areas. However you can get referrred pain which could be experienced at a higher area on the back.

Agree with urologist: Simple kidney cysts are more common as people age. An estimated 25 percent of people 40 years of age and 50 percent of people 50 years of age have simple kidney cysts. Simple kidney cysts usually do not cause symptoms or harm the kidneys. On very rare occasions, a simple cyst can cause pain if large enough to press on adjacent organs or if a cyst becomes infected.
