PFO pain?: Patent foramen ovale (pfo) is not associated with chest pain. There is an association between pfo, migraines and strokes. Pfo is diagnosed by echocardiography. In most cases nothing needs to be done for a pfo. It is a very common finding; roughly a quarter of the general population have it.

Depends: I assume you have had a heart ultrasound to detect the pfo. These typically do not cause any problems unless you have a history of a heart rhythm abnormality. However, pregnancy or other conditions in which a blood clot could cross the pfo may be a concern. The cardiologist may obtain an ECG and another ultrasound test in addition to history.
