Lymph nodes : React to anything abnormal in the are they drain, such as infection on the skin, in the throat, mouth, teeth, etc. Etc. And when the infection is acute and the lymph node swells in just hours/days, it will hurt. Secondly, there are diseases of the lymphatic system and if involves a lymph node it can swell too. This usually not that painful as it is a mslower process. You, go and see a dr!
