A member asked:

My cholesterol level above 500. how to control. do i need to go for angioplasty?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Elevated TC.: Need understanding of your cholesterol subtypes. Total cholesterol (TC) = LDL + HDL +TRIG/5. To get TC that high generally requires very high TRIG. This may need to be treated to lower below 1000 range. But LDL is primary target of therapy. LDL may or may not need treatment based upon your other risks for coronary disease. Medication is in your future but angioplasty is not.
