Sore throat: Elderberry is no good, in fact may irritate it due to its acidity. I'd do salt water gargles instead. Rapid strep negative, good chance the culture will be negative. Medrol (methylprednisolone) should help, but sounds like an overkill in an uncomplicated sore throat.

Information Scanty..: It's hard to know exactly which compounds in plants have effector activity. Moreover, each individual may have unique sensitivities and responses to naturally occurring herbs and plants. Creating elderberry tea is popular but hard evidence for its efficacy is scarce. Hope you feel better soon!
