Yes: If patient allergic to penicillin, they can get different option of medication, and Levaquin (levofloxacin) is one of them.

Yes -different drug: These are totally different drugs, so the short answer is 'yes'. Antibiotics should ONLY be used however for bacterial infections - they will not work for viruses. So I would hope your doctor is trying to nail down exactly what your diagnosis is and 'why' you need the medication. There are some side effects to levaquin - definitely ask questions if concerned.
