Insomnia: Insomnia is not a psychiatric disorder, but a symptoms from multiple conditions. It ranges from poor sleep hygiene to major psychiatry disorder. Common conditions are anxiety and depression, but also major psychiatric conditions like Bipolar disorders. It would be necessary to consult a mental health professional and get a thorough evaluation.

Melatonin: Ck w/your doc first and don't take w/other sleeping meds or if pregnant. Melatonin (a hormone) can be helpful for sleep. Take one hour prior to going to bed and a very small dose--many folks take 1 or 2 mg. Peace and good health. I've not seen any "hang over" side effects. Peace and good health. No stimulants after noon. No computer or important work 1 hr. prior to sleep.

Depends on cause(s): People develop insomnia 4 many reasons. Careful detective work is the answer! FIRST, rule out any medical problems causing/contributing to it. SECOND, if no medical problems are apparent, try to identify behaviors/behavioral patterns tied to it (e.g., going to bed at all different hours, asking questions on HealthTap at bedtime, etc.) Learn abt "sleep hygiene" per the awesome Dr. Heidi Fowler!
