It is reasonable...: To speak with your child's dr. Without them being present. This can be a good way to express concerns. Yet, as your child matures, they may wonder what is being discussed in their absence and wish to know. Thus, private conversations can and should be a prelude to a shared discussion with free exchange. Your child should also speak with dr. Without you there, as your child is their patient.
