Talk to your Doc: Prednisone is used for patients with asthma who have increased symptoms that are not being controlled with inhalers. Prednisone does have side effects and the decision to use Prednisone is counterbalanced by the risk of not using prednisone. If one has concerns talk to the doctor who prescribed the medication.

Many side effects...: There are many side effects associated with systemic steroid therapy but an asthma exacerbation can be life-threatening. Most of the serious side-effects are more of an issue with long-term use, not a "burst" of steroids with a fairly rapid taper which is what is typically prescribed in acute asthma. You should also be on a steroid inhaler as the side-effects of this are much lower.
