Trauma and the eye: The time it takes for a retinal detachment to develop after facial trauma is very variable. It could happen within a day or two, or it could take months. The only way to know if the retina is detaching is with an eye exam by a physician.

See an eye doctor: New or worse flashes or floaters or loss of vision (like a curtain or veil obscuring part of the vision) necessitates an urgent dilated retinal exam. This can happen immediately after a trauma or days, months, years, decades later. Most detachments are spontaneous (not due to trauma).
