Is it safe to start steroids in 1 year old baby who has indications of mild wheeze and had pneumonia recently?

Asthma: Start nebulized steroids, such as budesonide, these are safer and should control the symptoms well. Oral steroids are used for a short period of time for acute exacerbations and should not be used long term.

Ask the doctor: I believe that your baby's doctor prescribed Prednisone for your baby, because he is thought to have asthma? Prednisone or Prednisolone is commonly used to prevent frequent attacks of asthma, but its indication depends on the severity. Without knowing your baby's frequency and symptoms of wheezing and cough, it is impossible to say that your baby needs steroids. You should ask your baby's doctor.

Steroids in infants: Steroids like Prednisolone are potent medications that can have significant side effects. Nevertheless, in patients with asthma there is really nothing else that can reverse the airway inflammation quickly. According to studies children actually handle steroids much better than adults do. Steroids are routinely indicated for toddlers with asthma. Talk to your doctor.
