Probably OK: 5 years of pre-diabetic sugar levels should not lead to blindness. Check your hba1c regularly, and see your ophthalmologist to discuss this and have the retina looked at.

Depends : Most young diabetics will take at least 5 years before the diabetes can affect the retina- the light sensitive eye that is most commonly involved. Adult onset diabetics usually already have some form of eye disease at diagnosis. The chance of retinopathy is dependent on duration of disease, the amount of control of blood sugars, blood pressure and cholesterol and other co-existing diseases.

Not likely: Diabetic retinopathy is likely after at least 5 - 10 years of uncontrolled or undiagnosed diabetes. Being pre-diabetic alone is not likely to cause retinopathy, and if you are no longer pre-diabetic, then your chances of going blind is as for non-diabetics - very low risk.
