Do not worry: First of all, diverticulitis should be confirmed by the presence of symptoms and the finding of inflammation by ct scan. This justifies the use of antibiotics. The problem antibiotic is the flagyl. Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) typically does not have these side effects and should have close to the same coverage.

Depending on what: Depending on what bothered you about these medications, likely no. Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) is in an entirely different class of medications from the other two. On the other hand, if you experienced diarrhea from the cipro/flagyl, Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) can also cause this problem. Occasionally taking a probiotic can help.

The combination: Of Ciprofloxacin and Flagyl can be hard on the stomach. It likely mostly the flagyl. Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) should be easier to tolerate. If you can focus your anxiety on the problems that occur without taking antibiotics it should change the focus. Good luck.
