Pain: The feeling of pain must involves nerves otherwise you would not feel it as pain. If you are referring to specifically nerve injury related pain then this is usually quite severe. Even though you cannot feel anything on the outside with your fingers you could have something going on on the inside - something you cannot feel. If the pain does not go away then see your doctor.
