Depends on symptoms: If there are no symptoms, no treatment is needed. Ligamentum flavum is a strong yellow ligament that helps form the back wall of the spinal canal. It helps stabilize the spine. As one gets older, the ligament thickens (hypertrophy) and this can lead to pressure on nerves, or less space in the spinal canal. The facet joints in back of spine, can also have extra bone spurs pushing on nerves.

You may need: facet joint injections, radiofrequency ablation and even things like platelet rich plasma, prolotherapy or even stem cell therapies. Try to find a physician that does all of these to get the most options for treatment for you.
