Why is sodium fluoride bad for teeth?"

It's not bad: Very high concentrations of any Fluoride that is ingested would be bad for your health & can cause fluorosis of the teeth that are being formed (in children) that are underneath the gums. Typical levels of sodium Fluoride in toothpaste (use a pea-sized amount only) or in the liquid rinses (always follow the exact directions) when used as directed will not harm.

Dental fluorosis: Exposure to high levels of Fluoride while the teeth are forming under the gums will cause dental fluorosis (approximately below age 8). However, exposure to the proper amount of Fluoride (both children and adults) protects teeth by making the enamel stronger. Like many things it is not a matter of good or bad, but proper use. Use Fluoride properly and it is good for your teeth.
