D-dimer: D-dimers can be elevated if the liver isn't functioning well or if there is any sort of clotting going on in the body, either following surgery or to things like dic. You need to see a hematologist to get an accurate diagnosis.

Ddimer: Ddimer is a breakdown product of cross linked fibrin. Fibrin is the chief component of "clot". Elevated ddimer indicates the presence of clot somewhere in the circulatory system. While clots in the legs are the most common location, clots can also form in other veins that are more difficult to evaluate. In the absence of a lab error, ddimer is very specific for the presence of clot breakdown.
