A member asked:

I had a positive d dimer test 0.98 they did ct aniogram with contrast and no clot there. could there be a clot somewhere else? or could bruises cause this elevated level or damage blood vessel from iv ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, a negative D-dimer test is more useful in excluding a clot but a positive one can be due to many reasons and is not diagnostic of a clot. Wish you good health!
