LE and nitrites: On urinalysis, positive leukocyte esterase (le) shows inflammation and positive nitrites confirm bacteria. Even without nitrites, a UTI can still be present. The gold standard for UTI diagnosis is urine culture with diagnosis of bacteria type and sensitivity/resistance to antibiotic.
