Hard to say.: Different theories. The current thinking is that many of these are due to osteoarthritis. They can go away on their own. They can be ignored if they don't bug you. But since the chance of them returning is good, no matter what treatment is chosen, this would be a good time to see a hand surgeon, who can try the simple things first, and know when more complicated treatments, are worth trying.
