Sitting: Weight bearing increase the stress on the calf.

Stretching: You need to stretch so whatever means you can achieve this will help. As your calf tries to heal it will generate scar. You want to keep this as stretched out as possible in this time so as to not keep tearing thru stiff scar tissue. Muscle tissue is like hamburger meat and if it scars down it will be a recurrent problem (reference any nfl running back with an early season "calf sprain"). Gluck.
