People are different: Esomeprazole is anecdotally more effective than omeprazole, but the medications are essentially the same. Studies show Omeprazole is more effective than ranitidine in reducing stomach acid, so it is most commonly prescribed for ulcers, but everyone is different, so you may get more personal relief from the ranitidine.

Not unusual: Esomeprazole and Omeprazole are both proton pump inhibitors, and 6 week course is usually needed to treat a benign gastric ulcer. It is not unusual for one to tolerate or feel better on one vs the other, but both should be effective generally. Ranitidine falls into the category of an h2blocker which is an older med for this, but doses to treat would be 150mg twice daily for 8 wks. F/u w GI doc.

Medication: There is no 'logic'. There is the reality. Stop the drug that does not work and start the drug that does. Just inform your physician that you have changed course.
