Ultrasound: You do not mention the type of surgery that you are to have - the risk of surgery in the face of underlying liver disease depends on the type of surgery and the degree of liver damage. Ascites is an indicator of the severity of liver disease, but the risk of surgery is not necessarily eliminated if the ascites is gone. See your hepatologist for full assessment of the risk of surgery.
