Multiple reasons: Veins return blood back to the heart and can carry a large volume of blood. Depending on many factors including levels of hydration, genetics, outside temperature and even physical activity, the size of the veins will vary. Another important function of the veins is to help control body temperature and this too will affect vein size. Bulging veins, however, are not normal. See a vein specialist.

Enlarging Veins Legs: It is possible that you could be developing varicose veins & i would recommend being evaluated by a vein specialist. Varicose veins are abnormal & can occur at early ages, even during the teenage years. They tend to get worse with time & can be made worse with weight gain. It occurs due to weakened vein valves in the legs & can often be treated successfully. See an md to determine if varicose.

No. : The veins in your legs did not cause your weight gain. They might get worse with weight gain, however. See a phlebologist or vein specialist to have them dealt with. Phlebology.Org for referrals.
