No: If you are referring to the practice of magnetic stimulation, then the answer is a strong no. This is a very different type of treatment than ect, and it appears to be much safer. It has been studied extensively for years prior to government approval.

Some Confusion: Electro convulsive therapy (ect), repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rtms), and deep brain stimulation (dbs), are used in the treatment of major depression. Only ECT and rtms have fda approval. In ECT an electric charge is passed through the brain, in rtms strong magnetic fields are created in areas of the brain, and with dbs implanted electrodes deliver electricity to the brain.
