How successful are the results after bunion and hammertoe surgery (98%?, 99%?)?

Bunions and toes: Success after bunion and hammertoe surgery is very high...And depends on the surgeon doing the work. There are about 100 different bunions procedures documented..... The choice of procedure is based largely on the biomechanical measurements of the x-rays, (geometry). Then the procedure is chosen from that. Hammertoe surgery is somewhat the same. See a specialist who has alot of experience.

It Depends: It depends on the severity of the deformity, whether the joints are congruent, and whether it is just shaving of a bone spur versus osteotomies and fixation with screws.

Usually quite good: Success is depends on a variety of factors: severity of deformity, quality of the repair and patient compliance. It also depends on the patient's perception of success. Surgery will not make the foot normal, it can make the foot much better. The goal is to relieve symptoms and improve function. Most do extremely well. Select a good foot surgeon visit acfas.Org. Good: The outcome of any surgery depends on several things. The right procedure must be chosen, the surgeon, well trained and the patient must be conscientious in following post-op instructions. Retrospective studies put bunion surgery success at ~85% good to excellent results, but that also includes those patients who did things they were told not to do after surgery. Most patients do quite well.

Success: The success of any surgery doesn't vary as much form surgeon to surgeon as it does with patient compliance. That is you , the patient, must play an active role in your care , follow instructions to the letter . Then you have a great chance at a successful outcome.
